One minute of DDOS attack costs US$183,000 fine for a Hacker

Eric Rosol from Wisconsin participated in the 2011 DDOS attack ( distributed denial o

f service) with Anonymous on Koch Industries. For his participation of one minute, the judge fined $183,000 on Eric and two years of probation.

Was this justified ? Well no one knows and its probobly not. For a company like Koch Industries,it might have costed 2 to 4,000$ at the maximum. But the company claims that they had to hire consultants/employees to protect their websites. Well that’s where the number 183,000 comes from.

Even after Eric pleading guilty for his offence, the penalty on him is not justifiable if you visit their website. It also possible that Koch got their free publicity because of this case. After all it may be yet another marketing gimmick for the company.
