Bogus alert from Microsoft Digital Crime Unit carries malware. Microsoft Digital Crime Unit helps fight online crimes partnering with other organisations, the division of Microsoft that was responsible to take down few of botnets and investigate of various online legal issues.
As per Sophos the spammed out email looks like the screenshot below. The email with the old Microsoft logo with the attachment called Microsoft_STF_install.zip. And, according to the above email, “all users of the internet” should run the program to validate “there” (sic) email account.
The attached file contained Troj/Agent-AANA Trojan horse as reported by Sophos.
Sadly such emails works really well infecting Windows hosts. The email looks genuine for most users may end up infecting their windows systems.
It appears that the spammers are behind the big guys and we hope their spamming technique remains ineffective on Windows users.
